Candy AI vs OurDream AI

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Tested from an Aussie IP. April 2026. By Matt. ยท AUD figures updated 3 August 2026
Candy.ai vs OurDream.ai comparison for Australian users
Bottom line: Both are accessible in Australia. Both bundle image generation with chat. The difference that matters is the pricing model: Candy.ai charges tokens for images on top of its subscription; OurDream includes image and video gen in a flat price. If you generate images regularly, OurDream's annual plan works out cheaper. If you mainly want to chat and prefer a more polished interface, Candy.ai is the stronger product.

People search this both ways round, Candy AI vs OurDream AI and OurDream AI vs Candy AI. However you land here, the short answer is the same: pick on how you'll actually use it, not the headline price. Below is the side-by-side, tested from an Aussie IP.

Correction, 3 August 2026: The AUD figures on this page have been recalculated. They previously converted at AU$1.55 per USD, a rate that was never accurate for the period covered. All amounts now use AU$1.4249 per USD, the European Central Bank reference rate published 31 July 2026. The USD prices and the verdict are unchanged. Access testing and age-gate observations still date from April 2026.

AU access and age gates

Neither platform blocks Australian traffic. I tested both from an Aussie IP in April 2026 and both loaded without any issue.

Candy.ai has a one-click self-declaration gate. You press a button confirming you're 18+ and the site loads. Fast, frictionless, and technically non-compliant with the Online Safety Act. The OSA requires actual age verification, not self-declaration. That said, Candy.ai hasn't been blocked or pressured into withdrawal. It's still here.

OurDream.ai I wasn't able to independently verify the exact gate type on the day I tested. The site was accessible, and I didn't encounter friction accessing the character library.

OSA note: Candy.ai's button-click gate does not comply with the Online Safety Act 2026. OurDream.ai's gate type was not independently verified. Both platforms are accessible from Australia as of April 2026.

Candy.ai is cheaper, and the gap is much wider than this comparison used to say. On the annual plan it's A$5.99 a month against OurDream's ~AU$14. That's less than half. Candy also bills in Australian dollars, so there's no conversion and no foreign transaction fee, while OurDream's AUD figure moves with the exchange rate and picks up 1.5 to 3% from your bank on top.

Corrected 3 August 2026: this page previously put Candy.ai's annual plan at ~AU$11.50/mo and built a break-even table on a AU$2.50 monthly gap. Both were wrong. Candy's live plan screen shows A$5.99/month on 12 months, billed in AUD. The real gap is about A$8 a month, which changes the conclusion below.

Where the break-even falls

Candy's subscription includes 100 tokens a month and meters image generation beyond that. OurDream's 1,000 Dreamcoins cover 200 images, 10 videos or 20 minutes of voice calls, with nothing metered on top. So the question is how much you generate.

With an A$8 a month head start, Candy can absorb a lot of top-ups before OurDream catches it. On the old (wrong) A$2.50 gap, moderate image use was enough to flip the answer. On the real numbers, you need to be generating heavily and consistently before OurDream's included allowance wins on cost alone.

I'm not going to put a precise image count on it, because Candy's token top-up pricing isn't something I've verified from the live checkout, and inventing a number here would be worse than saying so. What holds regardless of the top-up rate: Candy is cheaper for light and moderate use, and the crossover point is a long way up.

Which means the case for OurDream isn't really price any more. It's the memory system, the voice calls, and knowing that your monthly bill can't move no matter how much you generate. Those are decent reasons. "It works out cheaper" mostly isn't one, unless you're a heavy generator.

Features compared

Candy.ai has been around longer and it shows. The character library is more developed, the interface is cleaner, and the experience is more polished. You can browse hundreds of pre-built characters or create your own. Content ranges from SFW to explicit depending on the mode and your subscription level. For a lot of people, this is exactly what they want: a well-built app that works without much fiddling.

OurDream leans more into roleplay than straight companionship. The platform has a "no limits" framing, and the community character library covers fantasy RPG, romance, and more niche scenarios alongside the standard companion stuff. The memory system is the genuine differentiator: it carries context across sessions, so the AI actually remembers what you discussed last week. Candy.ai's memory resets far more frequently. That's a noticeable gap once you've experienced both.

Both platforms generate video. The difference is the monthly allowance: OurDream gives you 1000 DreamCoins, Candy gives 100 tokens, and video is the most allowance-hungry thing you can do. If you generate video regularly, OurDream's allowance stretches much further before you're topping up. OurDream's video draws some criticism around coin cost and slow generation, but the bigger allowance is the real advantage.

Candy.ai strengths

  • More polished, refined interface
  • Larger, longer-established character library
  • Much cheaper annual plan (A$5.99/mo, billed in AUD)
  • Better brand recognition and track record
  • Solid choice for chat-focused use

OurDream.ai strengths

  • Image and video gen included in the flat price
  • Cross-session memory that actually works
  • Voice calls included
  • Better value if you use image gen regularly
  • Deeper roleplay and scenario options

Who should choose Candy.ai

You want the most established platform. You mainly want to chat and aren't going to generate many images. The polished interface matters to you. Budget is tight. At A$5.99/mo on 12 months it's less than half OurDream's price, and it's billed in AUD so there's no FX fee.

Verdict

For a polished companion chat experience with the biggest character library, Candy.ai. The annual plan is competitively priced and the product is well built.

For everything bundled with no metering, OurDream on the annual plan at ~AU$14/mo: image generation, video generation, voice calls, and a memory system that works. Just be clear that you're paying roughly double Candy's annual price for that, not less.

Neither is a bad choice, but the price question now has a clear answer. Candy.ai's 12-month plan at A$5.99, billed in Australian dollars, is less than half what OurDream costs. OurDream earns its premium on memory, voice calls and unmetered generation, not on being cheaper.

If you're still weighing up the field rather than these two specifically, the full AUD pricing comparison covers all 13 platforms we've tested, and the best AI companion apps guide ranks them on more than price. Secrets.ai vs Candy.ai is the other comparison worth reading if voice matters to you.
